WILHELM MOSER

NATIONALITY:

Austrian, living in Düsseldorf, Germany and Passavant, France

BIOGRAPHY:

After completing his Lehrzeit in joinery and carpentry under the supervision of his father Alois Moser, Wilhelm Moser studied at the Gerrit Rietveld Academy, Amsterdam, The Netherlands.

Moser commuted between Düsseldorf and Paris until 1984, when Andy Warhol encouraged him to move to New York and recommended him to the Charles Cowles Gallery. In 1985, Moser founded The Collaborators, with German artist Joseph Beuys, the post-Dadaist Brion Gysin and the Paris based photographers Andre Ostier and Patrick Sarfati among others, with a remit to: Showcase the work of known, unknown, lost, forgotten, living and dead artists. The Collaborators unearthed the 20s Bauhaus magazine G and published work by the likes of Pierre et Gilles, Salome, Immendorf, Rainer Fetting, Lehnert and Landrock, Beato and many others.

In 1988, Moser moved to Miami Beach, where he campaigned for the preservation of art deco buildings outside the designated Deco District, and successfully fought for a stricter, city-wide building code. He now splits his time between America, Germany and traveling to hard-to-get-to places.

Moser has exhibited at the Charles Cowles Gallery since 1983. He has also exhibited at the Centre Georges Pompidou, Paris, France; Creatis Gallery, Paris, France; Galerie Niepel, Düsseldorf, Germany; South Art Gallery, Miami, Florida Galerie Gmyrek, Düsseldorf, Germany, Cube Art Center, Düsseldorf, Germany and Regina Nuessle Gallery, Miami Beach, USA.

Moser published a limited edition portfolio of photographs entitled Terraces in collaboration with the Photographers Gallery, London, England. He also published Ville Tatouee in collaboration with Texbraun Gallery, Paris, France. In addition, Moser has published two books of his work, Ruinenbau (1988) and Stone (2002)
